Our 280 Cub Concrete Grinder in action
How to use our 280 Cub Concrete Grinder
Safety
On delivery of your grinder hire, the operator must carefully read the safety instruction manual that is delivered with your grinder. The operator should be physically able to handle the bulk weight and power of this machine, however, don’t be afraid, it doesn’t take that much strength. It is important to ensure the machine is never left unattended while in operation. Ensure suitable clothing is worn including steel cap safety boots, hearing protection, safety goggles and a suitable dust mask. Concrete dust is known to have up to 50% silica content and can be harmful if inhaled. The machine can only be used on relatively flat surfaces and not steep grades. If the machine becomes difficult to hold on to, the floor surface is too steep.
How to get started
Firstly, cart the grinder to its dedicated work area, ensure the area is free of objects, loose material, dirt etc. To install or change the diamond tooling on this machine, ensure the handlebars are adjusted to sit upright in a vertical position. From there, tilt the machine on its back to enable access under the dust shroud at the base of the grinding head. To install new diamond tooling, simply install each segment into the slots located on the grinding disc. A light tap with a hammer to ensure they are tightly secured is required. To remove diamond segments, a light tap with a hammer in the opposite direction will allow the segment to slide out of its slot and free from the machine. Once the preferred diamond tooling has been installed, reverse this process, and lower the machine to the ground. You are now ready for grinding.
Connecting the dust extractor and powering up
Connect your dust extractor into the machine via the supplied extraction hose. Using an extension lead, connect the grinder into single phase 240v power using a standard 10-amp plug. In simple terms, your standard house power is sufficient. It is important to always use the heavy-duty extension lead that is supplied with your rental, this can handle high amperage and will ensure the machine is operating at its full potential. Turn the power on and you’re good to go. It’s time to start grinding!
Operating the machine
Before you power up, turn on the vacuum and clear the area. The on/off switch located on the handlebars is used to power the machine on. Ensure you have a firm hold of the handlebars before powering on. While operating, it’s important to keep the grinder moving and not holding it in one spot, this will ensure you don’t leave any harsh swirl marks in the concrete. Depending on the type of grinding you’re doing whether it’s surface preparation, glue removal or polishing, you will need to move the machine at different speeds. A good starting point is to move 1 meter every 10-15 seconds. From here you can slow down or speed up and this will give you a good idea of the speed you need to move at to achieve your desired finish.
